Food and First Dates

Lets talk about Food and first dates!

Is there foods that you should avoid on a first date? I don’t know, I would say that you should be able to eat whatever you like on a first date but I’m sure some people would disagree with me! The thing that you really shouldn’t do is eat something that you don’t like or are not sure about just to impress or not upset your first date! For example if you have food allergy don’t be scared to say this to your first date, it’s better to say it early on rather than them finding out later when you are having some sort of reaction and your first date doesn’t know what to do!

So lets have a look at what foods people suggest aren’t the best to eat on a first date!

Spaghetti.

As a person with Italian heritage it makes me sad that this is suggested to avoid on a first date however I actually completely understand it, spaghetti can be a bit wild to eat and if you add in a sauce then it can be game over! Also if your first date is a bit funny about food noises when someone is eating then spaghetti is going to have them squirming in their seat!

Onions and Garlic.

Onions and garlic are on a lot of peoples foods not to eat on a first date, garlic and onions can give you bad breath and also make you a bit farty! Which is probably not the best for a first date! However if your date is also having onions and garlic does it really matter if you have it and get garlic breath?

Spicy Food.

Well we all know what can happen if you decide to go for that super spicy curry or those Mexican jalapeno peppers. Yep tummy troubles can follow when you have had a spicy meal and to add to that you may end up with spicy breath too! I don’t think I would take the chance with spicy for on a first date as it can all end in tears (literally if you decide to go for a vindaloo)

An Ice Cream Cone!

For me having a swift 99 and a flake sounds amazing but I suppose on a first date it can be totally different! Do you bit the ice cream, lick it or eat the thing whole? Who knows! What if it is a hot day and its starts to melt that’s another level of stress that you don’t need, especially if there aren’t any wet wipes to hand! Suddenly a innocent ice cream becomes a massive scary problem!

A liquid Lunch.

I think this goes without saying that if you are going for a meal with your first date then try to not drink yourself under the table! Add some food in there first so that the alcohol doesn’t go straight to your head. Of course a drink to steady your nerves can be a good thing just not the whole bottle of spirits!

In the end it is completely up to you what you decide to eat on your first date! When it comes to getting to know someone new, trust your senses and maybe not drink too much and please don’t be afraid to speak up about what you want and need especially if it could mean your first date has to use an epi pen on you because you have a fish allergy!
